Why do this drill?
Thigh touch drill is a simple drill that encourages you to keep your stroke long and get the most out of your push phase. By touching your thigh with your thumb you will be finishing your stroke close to your body, when your arm is almost straight and your hand is past your hips. This drill is also useful to correct a wide pull.
How to do this drill
Before you get in the water stand upright and drop your arms by your sides. Make a mental note of where your thumbs naturally fall against your thigh – this is where you should be finishing your stroke. To do this drill, simply touch this part of your thigh with your thumb at the end of every stroke. Your arm, at this point should be almost straight.
