As the clock ticks towards this years main first goal and Barcelona 70.3 in May its been a good and tiring first month – haha. I never seem to learn by not getting distracted and resting when I should but that’s me all over.
Having a plan to stick with is so important for me and I think anyone who wants to achieve the best in this sport, otherwise how do you juggle three activities, life, playing and smiling!
My background is a swimmer and this year I have decided I need to focus on running and cycling more whilst at the same time keeping the flipper ways bubbling every week. This means my pride has been a little dented as I have to sit behind blokes that I normally lead out, ah well long term gain hey!
And so on to the weak link… the running – having a mixture of interval based sessions and the longer stuff has been good. I have even got myself back to Park Run as part of one of the weekly sessions! It does annoy me that the watch seems to lie when I do it but its all part of the master plan and I do feel better and stronger and have signed up to do Cardiff half marathon at the end of the month. I may even take on Mo! Well we will be at the same place at the same time, but I don’t think I can even keep up for more than 100m and that would be me flat out! Its amazing the pace they run at, one day maybe…
Bike sessions have been on a Watt bike and out on the roads again. I am looking forward to the warmth and sun again though, as I am not one for the cold – brrrr. Sitting in the garage leaves something to be desired buy the power of music helps and I am sure people walking past the house on the road must wonder what on earth is going on! Driving back from Glasgow yesterday I heard a plug by Trevor Nelson about a pod cast with Jess Ennis-Hill about what she listens to, time to see if we share anything on that one. On the road, its been good and I did over shoot my plan one week when I ended up doing 5 hours – whoops – but the Peak District and friends at an event is too good to turn down! Self confession is good but 80 Peaky miles later, I felt good and recovered well. The power of High 5 helps too…
On top of everything I have been good and kept up the work in the gym and a weekly hot pod yoga session. I am a big advocate of these sessions and think more athletes should do them.
Next month brings a trip to Mallorca to the BEST Centre and some bike riding in the warm hills and sprint race number one.
Bring it on…
